This film comes to us from Stanley Tong, arguably the weakest Director to work with Chan as he has no real visual eye and doesn't seem to know how to Direct bit-players in terms of performance. Here, this all results in a messy mix of oddball story concepts and a woefully under-baked plot structure. Many of the problems come with the fact that this movie feels like a 21st Century movie visually (outside of some very middling CGI, of which there is a good amount of) and in terms of its more fantasy-driven story, but it has the same nonsensical plot beats that Chan's films in the 90s had - We were able to overlook them in the 90s because they were accompanied with amazing fights, amazing stunts and a lot of charm. They even do a cute Bollywood Dance Number at the end that is silly but charming. ![]() ![]() Some of the fight sequences are pretty good, and while a lot of it isn't particularly convincing, I do appreciate how some of the mad-cap chase sequences operate, as they are, at the very least, creative and intricate in design. Kung-Fu Yoga falls into those Jackie Chan films where the problems inherent to its own structure are generally able to be forgiven due to Chan's energy and charm, as well as an enjoyable enough secondary Cast, both Chinese and Indian.
